lock on release their new entry level into a tablets and they were nice enough to send me one to review so let's check it out [Music] this is the Intuos it's a thin little tablet comes with a pen you can draw on it and what you draw appears on your screen also works on Windows or on a Mac these drawing tablets come in two sizes small and medium what's the difference where are my note the medium is larger than the small while we're talking about the actual area of the tablet that  you're drawing on the small has a live  area of six inches by 3.7 inches the medium has a live area of eight point five by five point three inches the new Intuos tablet comes in three colors black pistachio and berry cherry berry I like the extra space that the medium gives me in the last generation I use the small version the small felt a little cramped at times but if you're on a budget it definitely gets the job done Hey look at this there shortcut keys along the top you can map these to any keyboard shortcut your heart desires having the keys along the top isn't quite as practical as say having them along the side like the intros Pro has you wind up reaching one hand over the other hand that's drawing it's a little bit awkward since even the medium is really thin and compact it fits on my desk pretty well so if I move it a little bit off to the side I can draw and use my keyboard shortcuts no problem because it's been in light it's super easy to take with you I was a little bit worried when I first pulled it out of the package I thought it might be too light and slide around on my desk but it's got these little rubber grippy Roundy's that hold it in place the medium comes with bluetooth so you can use it wirelessly or plug it in using the USB cord it comes with if you get the small you have the option of whether you want to pay for the Bluetooth or whether you just want to use it as a USB tablet if you choose to go wired you're gonna save yourself twenty bucks the battery on the Bluetooth models charges when you plug it in using the USB cable now I haven't been doing heavy use with it and I have been plugging it into different computers but I am finding that the battery lasts a surprisingly long amount of time usually if I use it for a few hours at a time I'm only using 0 to 20% of the battery life okay there is one thing that I get really geeky about and that is the feel of these drawing tablets like what does the pen feel like when you actually place it down and draw on the surface of the tablet a lot of tablets say hey it feels like paper that's marketing speak for this feels nothing like paper the intro's doesn't promise that and it doesn't even really talk about that but that is my favorite part of the Intuos line when we're talking about digital drawing this is my favorite surface to draw and it just feels right it's the perfect amount of texture not too much not too little it almost feels like it has a rubbery edge to it let's take a look at this pen it's got four thousand levels of pressure sensitivity they are calling it a 4 K pen instead of saying it has 4096 levels of pressure I like that because I always mess up those numbers when I'm doing these postsif I draw really lightly with my ink brush shows up well it has a good initial  activation rate apply a little bit of  pressure gets wider at a consistent rate it is a very smooth feeling pen same  with brushes to change opacity and get darker as you apply more pressure it's very smooth diagonal line test looks good there are no jitters check and if you're traveling with it the pen fits snugly into the little loop that's at the top of the tablet what's that you want spare nibs we you're in luck tucked into the back of the new pen the pen has a little bit more weight to it than the old pen did it's still pretty light but  I think the old one was a little too light it's also a little narrower than a lot of the styluses that come with other tablets I got used to it but I still think I prefer the pro pen couple of tips if this is your first time ever using something like this I would recommend actually using it for a couple days or a couple weeks to get used to it it takes a little bit of time for your eyes to adjust to looking at the screen while you're drawing over here also use t as a mouse even if you're not drawing that's just another thing that's gonna get you acclimated to using the pen now  I'm guilty of keeping my tablet off to the side of my laptop but if I need more accuracy and a lot of people will tell you this move it directly in front of the screen that you're drawing out that's gonna help you out in terms of getting used to looking at the screen and drawing at the same time now when it comes to setting up the software and the drivers it was very smooth I didn't run into any problems at all I also liked the settings in their software I've used a lot of third-party devices over the last couple years mostly like the screen devices if you want to see a rundown of those reviews and check out my favorites I've got a link down in the description but on a lot of those it seems like the settings are just an afterthought I get a feeling that Wacom has really thought through the user experience a little bit more for example I have a dual monitor setup I use the tablet on both screens  as a mouse replacement if your pen is  mapped to both screens at the same time  it could be a little awkward to draw with things can feel smooshed usually this requires you to go into the settings and say hey I just want to map to this screen while I'm using this right now but and Wacom settings what they've done is they've let you set it to a program so I can set it to Photoshop and when I click on Photoshop now I have just mapped to one screen as soon as I tap Photoshop with that pen now I have mapped to two screens and it's completely customizable so I can do this with illustrator flash animate whatever that program is called now huge  time-saver it's probably one of those  things it's hard to describe what I'm doing but if you know what I'm talking about you're like hey that's pretty cool so what are the drawbacks of the new intros when I first got everything installed things were a little bit quirky Wacom did update the drivers about halfway through the review and seemed to clear up some of those things none of them were show stoppers for example when I opened up Adobe animate and I went to the pressure settings it just didn't exist I couldn't find it I had to reboot the program in order to actually find those pressure settings but I did get it to eventually work but since the update I haven't really run into that problem so nothing huge and it also looks like Wacom is updating the drivers frequently and trying to iron some of these things out the other drawback is gonna be the price if you're giving the small it's about $80 now that you can get something for about half that price it's not quite as good but it gets the job done really what Wacom is usually going for is trying to be the best out there so you're paying for the quality you're paying for that good feel when you draw on the tablet you're paying for those better drivers as far as price the starting price for the small is a little higher than it used to be like I mentioned it before it's $80 the small Bluetooth version is  $20 more it's a hundred bucks and the medium is $200 there's more good news it comes with some software you got three applications to choose from but depending on which tablet you buy this gets a little confusing so I'll try to sort it out here the small without bluetooth you can choose one of these wo programs these small with Bluetooth you can choose two of these three programs the medium version comes with all three I haven't used the Corel programs too much but I have used clips to do ton and I absolutely love Clips to do if you're drawing comics or manga or a line art that thing is phenomenal it's a little disappointing that you can't get that if you get like the most inexpensive version that software alone runs you about fifty dollars I think it's totally worth fifty dollars so if you can get the one with Bluetooth to also get that software I would totally recommend it but rest assured this tablet is gonna work with pretty much any software out there mostly I've been using it in Photoshop and illustrator and flash or Adobe animate over the last couple days but pretty much any software that you download and want to use for animation drawing or 3d programs it's gonna work with that so if you've been looking to dip your toe into digital art for the first time this might be a good place to start if you have any comments or questions let me know down below in the comment section I'm hoping to get a storytime animation out later this week probably on Wednesday fingers crossed might not make it until next week we'll see kind of on the edge of that one got a lot of bit of work to do still but that's all I've got for now I'll see you guys in a couple of days.
